Patna: NIA court, Patna, awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment and slapped a cash fine of ₹38,000 against the ninth terrorist convicted in the much-publicised Bodh Gaya bomb blast case. He, incidentally, is the only Bangladeshi national caught by the agencies in the case.

Special Judge, NIA, Patna, Gurvinder Singh Mehrotra convicted Jahidul Islam on Wednesday while reserving quantum of punishment for Friday.

In RC 4/18 Spl 12/2021, the quantum of punishment for convicted Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen operative SPL Judge, NIA, Patna, Gurvinder Singh Mehrotra for offences under sections of IPC, Explosive Substance Act, UAPA and Foreigners Act. aka Kaushar was pronounced by the court of SPL Judge, NIA, Patna, Gurvinder Singh Mehrotra for offences under sections of IPC, Explosive Substance Act, UAPA and Foreigners Act.

It must be mentioned here that the same court back in December 2021, convicted 8 others for the same 2018 Bodh Gaya blasts after confessing to the crime. Three terrorists (Paigambar Shiekh, Noor Alam & Ahmad Ali) were awarded lifers while the remaining 5 were given 10 years of rigorous imprisonment due to their involvement in a bomb blast that took place in the Buddhist pilgrim town on January 19, 2018, a few hours after the Dalai Lama had left the spot after delivering a sermon.

The NIA registered a case on February 3, 2018, pertaining to planting of three IEDs in and around the premises of Bodh Gaya temple complex. A chargesheet was filed against three accused on September 27, 2018, followed by another supplementary chargesheet on January 28, 2019 against the other six accused persons taking the count to nine.
