Apple may have plans to revamp its entire iPhone lineup next year. According to reliable KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will release a new iPhone with a glass casing (as opposed to the aluminium body in the current generation of iPhone) and an Amoled display next year. The supposed handset will have a 5.8-inch display.
According to Kuo, the Cupertino-based company is contemplating between glass, plastic and ceramic casing for the 2017 iPhone models – expected to be called the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus – and it is likely to side with glass. Furthermore, the iPhone 7 will have a curved display which will go alongside a curved glass body, Kuo wrote in a note to investors. Both these changes will set the supposed iPhone apart from the current line of iPhone models, that offer a metal body and a flat LCD display.
Other changes that Kuo anticipates in the next year’s iPhone are narrower bezels and a “completely new form factor design.” According to Kuo’s previous note, Apple will introduce a new 5.8-inch iPhone model with Amoled display. In fact, despite having a larger display, the iPhone will have a more compact body, according to Kuo, because Apple will shave off bezels from the sides. This is in line with a recent report which claimed that Apple was in talks with Samsung and LG for manufacturing an Oled display. The Oled display is brighter and more energy efficient than LCD.
Other features rumoured for the 2017 iPhone include support for wireless charging, and the inclusion of an additional biometric recognition, which could be either a facial recognition or an iris scanner.
