Alcatel Idol 4, Idol 4S, and Plus 10 Launched at MWC 2016

Alcatel in its pre-MWC 2016 keynote event launched three new devices in the market – two smartphones namely the Idol 4 and the Idol 4s and a 2-in-1 Windows 10 offering – the Plus 10. Notably, the Idol 4S’s retail packaging includes a VR headset (seen below). The offerings are also the first after the company’s rebranding to just Alcatel, instead of Alcatel OneTouch. The Idol 4 has been priced at EUR 279 (roughly Rs. 21,300), while the Idol 4S has been priced at EUR 449 (roughly Rs. 34,300).

The Alcatel Idol 4 and Idol 4S run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The Idol 4 sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution IPS LTPS display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, clubbed with Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB RAM. It houses 16GB of inbuilt storage, out of which users will get 10GB. However, the inbuilt storage can be expanded via microSD card (up to 512GB).

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based dual-SIM smartphone features a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) resolution Amoled display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, clubbed with Adreno 510 GPU and 3GB RAM. It houses 32GB of inbuilt storage, out of which users will get 25GB. However, the inbuilt storage can be expanded via microSD card (up to 512GB).

It features a 16-megapixel rear camera with touch focus and dual-LED flash, along with an 8-megapixel with real-time face beautification and a front-facing flash. The Alcatel Idol 4s measures 153.9×75.4×6.99mm, weighs 149 grams and is backed by a 3000mAh battery, which is rated to charge within 95 minutes via the Quick Charge version 2.0.

The duo includes Virtual Reality Content along with 300 percent reversible sound and UI. In the audio department, the smartphones sport Waves technology along with dual stereo speakers. They both house 4G LTE (Cat 4.), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and Micro-USB (with OTG). The Idol 4s comes with Google VR headset as well. Both will come in Gold, Dark Grey, Rose Gold, and Metal Silver.

alcatel_plus_10.jpgThe Alcatel Plus 10, as the name suggests features a 10-inch IPS display with 800×1280 pixels resolution. The Windows 10 2-in-1 is powered by a quad-core Intel processor (unspecified model). It sports 32GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The 2-in-1 tablet comes with a detachable 4G LTE keyboard, which together with the tablet offers 8410mAh battery, which is rated to deliver 8 hours of working time. The keyboard in addition can also act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 15 users.

Under connectivity options, the tablet includes Micro-USB, standard USB and Micro-HDMI. “Plus 10 is Alcatel’s first 2-in-1 device with Windows 10, and we’re very proud of all the functionality we’ve built into it,” said Vittorio Di Mauro, General Manager of Smart Connectivity at Alcatel. “Plus 10 goes everywhere I go – the house, the office, even the park! It’s a fun product that sparks a lot of conversation (and jealousy).”
