Burger King says it will pay for the upcoming nuptials of Illinois couple Joel Burger and Ashley King.
A New York public relations firm spokeswoman made the offer on behalf of the fast food giant during a Skype call with the beaming pair on Monday.
Burger King first heard of the story in a column published Friday in The State Journal-Register that went viral.
It told the story of how Burger and King have been known as Burger-King since Grade 5 in New Berlin. And in their engagement announcement, they had their picture taken next to the Burger King in Springfield.
“When we heard about the happy Burger-King couple, we felt an overwhelming urge to celebrate their upcoming marriage,” Burger King spokesman Eric Hirschhorn told The Register. “On so many levels it felt like fate; they found each other and their story found us.”
