One of the year’s biggest games, Gears of War 4 has an upcoming multiplayer beta. You’ll be able to play it from April 18 ahead of everyone else who will have to wait for the open beta from April 25 to May 1. But there’s a catch.
“Beginning on April 18, fans who’ve played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 will begin to receive tokens in waves for early access to the beta,” wrote Adam Fletcher, Director of Community at The Coalition (the game’s developer) on Xbox Wire. “Following the conclusion of early access on April 24, all qualifying Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One will be invited to join the beta until it ends on May 1.”
Fletcher goes on to state that the timeframe to quality for early access has been extended from March 1 to April 11. What this means is you simply need to log on to Xbox Live and play to Xbox Live and play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 by 11pm PDT, April 11 (11:30am IST, April 12). Of the two, you’re better off playing it on the Xbox One if our experience was anything to go by.
While the game is currently positioned as an Xbox One exclusive, what with articles from Gamespot and IGN removing any mention of Gears of War 4 coming to Windows 10, comments from Head of Xbox Marketing Aaron Greenberg hint otherwise. This was further solidified by The Coalition Studio Head Rod Fergusson stating that the game could “possibly” come to Windows 10.
With Quantum Break hitting the Xbox One and Windows Store at the same time, we won’t be surprised to see Gears of War 4 coming to Windows 10 PC the same time it lands on the Xbox One. Or at the very least, after a short period of timed exclusivity to Microsoft’s black box.
