Google is on an app-removal spree as it is getting rid of the bad apps from the Android Play Store. The tech giant recently removed 29 fake apps from the Play Store after they were found to be stealing photos and redirecting users into phishing websites. It has now removed another 28 fake apps from the Play Store after Quick Heal’s findings confirmed them to be fake.
The security firm revealed that all the 28 apps were created by the same developer “Sarvesh Developer.” These apps were downloaded over 48,000 times from the Play Store. According to a Quick Heal blog post, these apps “do not have any legitimate functionality related to App name.” Google has delisted these apps from the Play Store.
These include apps like Credit Card Process and Home Loan Advisor. These apps from the description look genuine but there’s nothing inside when you download and open them. According to the report, these apps have been developed by the developers just to earn money by showing ads.
All the apps have similar functioning. They all give some task to earn money. You need to watch some ads in each task. Click on ads and then you will be asked to download some apps. This will get you points. These apps will lure into earning 10 points claiming it will get you money transferred to your Paytm wallet but it doesn’t happen. The report says that a user has to watch total 22 advertisements in each app.
Android has many advantages over the iOS but it is this one area where the OS loses its battle. Being an open platform it is susceptible to fraud apps. These apps are dangerous like they can drain your phone’s battery, harm your phone’s ecosystem, or access your private details on phone.
You should be careful before downloading any app. Read the users’ comments in the Play Store before downloading. Also avoid downloading unknown apps. Here is a list of these 28 fake apps. Go through it and check if you are not using of these on your phone. If yes then delete them now.
