Karbonn Mobiles has dipped its feet into artificial intelligence, and has launched a new app called Fashion Eye. The Indian smartphone company has partnered up with AI startup Staqu to bring artificial intelligence enabled features to its new Fashion Eye range of smartphones.
The Fashion Eye app will come pre-installed with the Fashion Eye and Fashion Eye 2.0 smartphones. It essentially generates search results for the user on the basis of an outfit photo. The AI engine inside the Fashion Eye app decodes the prints, patterns and colours automatically, and gives results from e-commerce sites. It also shows price comparison of outfits on different sites, for the user to make an informed decision.
“Our partnership with Staqu is another step towards dissolving adoption barriers by offering users a seamless online buying experience regardless of their digital proficiency. Amassing a base of an estimated 20 thousand users within the beta phase of the app launch, we are highly confident about the consumer response to our Fashion Eye range expecting it to push our VAS revenue streams to go up to 10-15 percent by the end of FY 2016-2017,” said Shashin Devsare, Executive Director, Karbonn Mobiles.
Gadgets 360 had already learnt of Karbonn’s plan to enter into the AI space, and was aware that an announcement was imperative. “We don’t look to repeat what Google or Apple have already done. What we are looking at as artificial intelligence would be a very deeper integration of how you able to make up your mind for, let’s say shopping,” Pradeep Jain, Managing Director, Karbonn Mobiles had told Gadgets 360 earlier.
The Karbonn Fashion Eye, which became unofficially available earlier this week on Amazon India, has been priced at Rs. 5,490. It features a 5-inch display, a 1.3GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB inbuilt storage, 8-megapixel rear camera, 3.2-megapixel front camera, and a 2000mAh battery.
In comparison, the Karbonn Fashion Eye 2.0 is priced at Rs. 6,490, and offers 16GB inbuilt storage and 2GB of RAM – but is otherwise identical to the Fashion Eye.
