The long-awaited next generation Suzuki Swift hatchback today broke cover in Japan ahead of its official launch. The new Swift will then make its world premiere at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. And while the new Swift will go on sale in its home country 4th January 2017, the carmaker’s local arm Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) will launch the new Swift hatchback in India only around the next festive season. That is because, as we told you in our earlier reports the Indo-Japanese carmaker plans bring in the new-gen Swift Dzire subcompact sedan first, which is slated for an April or May 2017 launch.
The new-gen Suzuki Swift has gone through a host of changes both on the exterior front and the interior. The car is built on the same design platform that underpins the carmaker’s popular premium hatchback – Baleno. While we are sure that Maruti will see to it that the new Swift does not creep into the territory of its slight premium cousin, with all the premium updated that the company is promising it will be quite a difficult task. That said, the new Suzuki Swift is also expected to be 15 per cent lighter than the Baleno. The brochure which was leaked early this month revealed that the new Suzuki Swift will come with no less than six variants for the Japanese market comprising the Hybrid RS, RSt, RS, Hybrid ML, XL and XG.
