With Rogue One nearing release, there are bound to be brand tie-ups around the world. In Japan, telecommunications giant SoftBank Corp is launching a pair of Star Wars themed phones, one for each side of the Force. The decision of which variant to buy will also affect your colour choice, so you may want to look at it from that perspective.
Made by Sharp, the Star Wars phones are available in Dark and Light side editions, replete with their logos on the back. On top of that, here are all the other Star Wars things the phone has:
- Live wallpaper that gives you the cockpit view from the TIE fighter or an X-wing
- Star Wars skinning across the phone’s GUI, right from the fonts to the weather app
- A bunch of wallpapers featuring characters from the Star Wars universe
- Star Wars: Force Collection mobile card game, with one free gold card pack
- A Star Wars movie player that grants you access to subtitled and dubbed version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, until December 1, 2019 – only if you live in Japan
- Star Wars-themed alarm clock app
- Star Wars emoji, featuring everyone from one-arm Luke to BB8
- Star Wars ringtones and sound effects
- Five Rogue One figurines, including Darth Vader, a Shoretrooper, a Death Trooper, droid K-2SO, and a U-wing fighter
- A luxury box that matches the colour of your phone
And oh, before we forget – since it’s a phone, there are specifications involved in the mix, if any fan cares about those things when considering buying something like this. Here’s what you get, specifications-wise:
- 5.3-inch full-HD IGZO display
- Snapdragon 820 processor, with 3GB RAM
- 22.6-megapixel rear camera, and 5-megapixel front camera
- 4K video support
- 32GB of storage, with SD card support up to a maximum 256GB
- IPX5/IPX8 waterproofing capability
- Android 6.0 mobile OS
- 73mm × 149mm × 7.6mm (WxHxT)
- About 155g in weight
In Japan, the phone supports the following bands: LTE 4G (FDD-LTE): 900MHz / 1.7GHz / 2.1GHz; and 4G (AXGP): 2.5GHz. If you’re looking to use it outside Japan, it runs on LTE 4G (FDD-LTE): 1.7GHz / 2.1GHz.
The Star Wars phones are already up for pre-order, and will be available via SoftBank on December 2. If you’ve got a friend who’s travelling to Japan soon, tell them this is the phone you’re looking for.
