The LG G7 has quickly become one of the more talked about smartphone after MWC 2018. Initially, there were rumours that the South Korean brand had canceled the successor to the LG G6 altogether. However, this rumor became questionable when out of the blue, images of the LG G7 floated on the internet which showed the phone on display at a booth in MWC.
The images showed that the company was taking a step aside from re-inventing the smartphone the way it did with the G6 and its modular parts and rather sticking to the industrial design. It showed a large bezel-less display up front, possibly a QHD+ panel, with an 18:9 aspect ratio. In the optics department, the phone will have a dual-rear camera featuring two 16MP sensors, both having a f/1.6 aperture. This means that the phone will be able to capture great images in low light (lower the aperture, better the camera can take images in low light). On the front, it will come with an 8-megapixel wide-angle selfie camera. This will also aid in face-unlocking the smartphone. As a fallback to that, the phone will come with a fingerprint sensor as well, located on the back, below the camera setup.
Since then, some more images have come to light, courtesy of technobuffalo, further giving us an idea of what the smartphone will look like in all its glory. It also shows us the colour variants that are possible to be flaunted on this phone. Initially, we’d seen a black variant, and now a grey version. What we didn’t see in the first images was that the upcoming offering will also come with a notch! Yes, the notch trend is real and it’s probably here to stay. sigh.
That being said, the LG G7 is going to be a flagship device, and will hence rock the Snapdragon 845 chipset made by Qualcomm. In addition to that, to compete with rival devices, it is likely to come in either 4GB or 6GB RAM variants. On the storage side of things, LG may decide to go with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, with an option to expand through a microSD card.
With the specifications out of the way, LG may not call the phone as the LG G7 after all. In fact, as popular leakster Evan Blass has stated, the phone will go by the code name Judy and will arrive in June this year. With LG probably calling this phone as something else, the G-series from the brand is likely to come to a halt. Either way, whatever name the phone goes by, we sure are excited to see its arrival.
