Xiaomi Mi 5 'Extreme' With Beefed-Up Specifications Spotted

Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 5 smartphone is available in a new “Extreme” version in China. Priced at CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs. 20,000), the new Mi 5 “Extreme” version is available via a third-party online retailer in Xiaomi’s home country and sports overclocked processor, GPU, and RAM. Rest of the specifications are in line with the ‘regular’ Xiaomi Mi 5.

At the time of writing, the new “Extreme” version of the Xiaomi Mi 5 was not listed on Xiaomi’s website, so it’s not clear if this is an ‘official’ variant or some kind of crazy third-party mod, not usually seen in the smartphone world.

The new Xiaomi Mi 5 “Extreme” version comes with the same Snapdragon 820 processor and includes 3GB of RAM alongside an Adreno 530 GPU. When compared to the original Mi 5, the new “Extreme” version is clocked at 2.15GHz compared to 1.8GHz; GPU is clocked at 624MHz as against to 510MHz, and RAM is overclocked at 1866MHz from 1333MHz.
Five months after the launch of the Mi 5, slashed its official price in China last month, bringing down the retail price to CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 18,100). In India, the Mi 5 smartphone also received a price cut of Rs. 2,000, and is now available at Rs. 22,999.

To refresh on the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is a dual-SIM (Nano + Nano) smartphone and sports a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) with curved 3D Ceramic glass, and a pixel density of 428ppi. It features a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 camera sensor with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and LED flash. The rear camera also sports 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation) and sapphire glass protection lens. The smartphone supports 4K video recording. It also sports a 4-megapixel front camera with 2-micron pixels. Both cameras feature an f/2.0 aperture. It measures 144.5×69.2×7.25mm and weighs 129 grams. The Mi 5 packs a 3000mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Also on board is a USB Type-C port and other connectivity options include VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ac, 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, Glonass, and NFC.
