Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia X Performance Launched at MWC 2016

Sony on Monday announced an aesthetic re-branding of its Xperia brand at MWC in Barcelona, and revealed an all-new X series of smartphones. Under the new X-series, Sony launched Xperia X (seen above), Xperia X Performance and Xperia XA smartphones. The company says that the brand new Xperia X series will personify Sony Mobile’s brand vision for the “future of communications, with ambient connected devices capable of changing the way you interact with the world.”

“Sony Mobile will continue to create increasingly personalised and intelligent products and services that empower you to do more, and live more creatively than ever. Our products and services will connect you to each other and become essential and beloved parts of your lives,” said Hiroki Totoki, President and CEO at Sony Mobile Communications.

They will go on sale from summer 2016 and the company is expected to reveal prices at the time of local launch. The phones will come with a range of matching style covers.

All three new Xperia X smartphones run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with company’s UI on top and come in single and dual-SIM models. The Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Performance share some similar innards such as a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Triluminos display for mobile powered X-Reality for mobile engine; a 23-megapixel rear camera with f1/2.3 Exmor RS for mobile sensor, predictive hybrid autofocus, and pulse LED flash; 13-megapixel front camera; 3GB of RAM; 32GB inbuilt storage, expandable storage support up to 200GB via microSD card, and 4G LTE support.

The Sony Xperia X Performace is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor while the Xperia X packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor. Sony says that the predictive hybrid autofocus feature in the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance smartphones has been developed in close collaboration with the company’s Alpha camera engineers. The feature lets users choose subject and then predict its motion, so one can capture the action in perfect focus, free from blur.

The Sony Xperia X measures 142.7×69.4×7.9mm and weighs 153 grams. It is backed by a 2620mAh battery. The handset’s dual-SIM version packs 64GB inbuilt storage. The Xperia X Performance, on the other hand, measures 143.7×70.4×8.7mm and weighs 164 grams. It packs a 2700mAh battery.

It is powered by a MediaTek MT6755 coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. Much like Xperia X and Xperia X Performance, the Xperia XA also supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 200GB). The Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphone sports a 13-megapixel camera with Exmor RS for mobile sensor, hybrid autofocus, and LED flash. It also houses an 8-megapixel front camera. It is backed by a 2300mAh battery, measures 143.6×66.8×7.9mm, and weighs 138 grams.

As mentioned earlier, all three models will be available in dual-SIM variants – the Xperia X Dual, Xperia XA Dual, and Xperia X Performance Dual.
